URL handling flaw exposes Plex Media Server plugin functions
[ Why it matters ]Priority signals
- Exploited in the wild: on CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list since 2026-10-20
[ Analyst view ]Is this a red alert for you?
Patch within days
CISA lists it as exploited and it needs no credentials, but its impact is limited.
- Red alert if
- You run an unpatched Plex Media Server reachable from the internet on a network that also hosts business systems.
- Can wait if
- You do not run Plex, or it runs on an isolated home or media network and you update it this week.
- What it is
- Plex Media Server before 1.43.3.10861 does not correctly handle URL values in searchOne, which lets an attacker call other plugins' functions with parameters they choose, without logging in.
- Impact
- An attacker can trigger plugin functions on the Plex server, with limited effects on data according to the scoring. On its own this does not give control of the server, but it can be combined with other Plex flaws.
How an attack would work MITRE ATT&CK
- T1190 Exploit Public-Facing ApplicationThe attacker sends crafted search requests to a Plex server on the internet.
- T1059 Command and Scripting InterpreterPlugin functions are called with parameters the attacker chooses.
What to do
- Update Plex Media Server to 1.43.3.10861 or later; this fixes all four Plex flaws listed together.
- Do not expose Plex to the internet unless you need remote access.
